They shouldn't be doing that!
Does anyone else flinch or recoil when you see an image like this? Or feel uncomfortable when you observe someone on TV touching, crowding, or hugging? My daughter and I were watching a Netflix show the other day and she asked me if I got freaked out by seeing a scene of people in a crowded nightclub. YES! My immediate thought was, "they shouldn't be doing that!" Of course, we SHOULD be together. We SHOULD be gathering together to share an experience. Children SHOULD be crowded on the logs at camp, singing and screaming and laughing. Just not now. Now we need to respect this virus. We need to shelter at home, social distance, mask our faces and BELIEVE that life will return to the way it SHOULD be in due course.
I have found that the emotional toll of this pandemic comes in waves. It has been a tough few days for me. I'm not sure what triggered it. I think it might have been a shoot with a beautiful family in their backyard. Not being able to hug my clients, tell secrets with their kids, adjust their hair, crowd around my camera looking at the images we created is really hard! The lack of physical connection is real. And it is affecting me more than I realized.
I am pining for the days of hugs and human contact. The summer days I could run around Tom Sawyer Camp capturing kids unplugged, unmasked, CONNECTING with their counselors and each other. I believe that we will return to those experiences at some point. I also understand that it is going to take longer than any of us thought. And that is really stinking hard.
These photos are reminders of how it used to be and how it will be again ...someday.
Warmest,
Lisa
